Dear Friends,

We are very encouraged to learn that world leaders, celebrities, and people around the world show their support and expressed their concerns for Aung San Suu Kyi. We welcome world leaders’ statement expressing their concern for Aung San Suu Kyi. But they must keep on pressing on junta until Aung San Suu Kyi is free.

Releasing statements expressing concerns alone are not enough. To be freed Aung San Suu Kyi, all necessary actions must be taken. We must keep on pressing world leaders to translate their WORDS into ACTION.

We would like to request you to keep on demanding your respective governments, presidents, prime ministers, MPs, senators and congressmen to keep on pressuring Burmese junta until Aung San Suu Kyi is free.

The followings are what they said:

"Regime is clearly intent on finding any pretext, no matter how tenuous, to extend her unlawful detention".

U.S. President Barack Obama

"The crisis between the United States and Burma ... has not been resolved. These actions and policies are hostile to U.S. interests. For this reason, I have determined that it is necessary to ... maintain in force the sanctions against Burma to respond to this threat."

"Instead of being arrested she should have been released from house arrest, which was a clear violation of international law as determined by the United Nations"..

"Release her immediately from her existing detention which is illegal, even under Myanmar's own laws. Myanmar authorities might claim Aung San Suu Kyi has breached the conditions of her detention, but they have broken both their own laws and their international human rights obligations”.

“The charges against her are not appropriate. Why should Aung San Suu Kyi be detained when it was the American national who swam across the waters to her house?”.

Singapore

Singapore’s foreign ministry said in a statement that it was “dismayed”

Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone

“Deep concern” over the new charges.
