ANTI-DICTATORSHIP, PEOPLE’S FREEDOM MOVEMENT IN BURMA
Washington D.C , U.S.A
Invitation Letter
Resistance Day of Burma
(March 27, 1945)
General Aung San exhorting his Burma Defense Army (BDA), “Attack the nearest enemy with any weapon available” at his last military parade held at the foot of the famous Buddhist shrine the Shwe-da-gon in Rangoon, Burma, on March 27, 1945, led the attack on the fascist Japanese occupiers on the eve of the last Great War. The people joined in this national cause. Finally they ended the brutal fascist Japanese rule in Burma .
The ruling military oligarchy in Burma is ‘using’ General Aung San founded Armed Forces of Burma in robbing the country’s natural resources, committing horrendous human rights violations, and specifically driving ethnic minority people out of their ancestral homes and lands. There are a million or so ethnic people languishing in refugee camps strewn along the Thai side of the Burma-Thailand borders today.
Thus, the image of the Armed Forces of Burma has greatly diminished in the eyes of the people of Burma and the international community.
Ignoring the calls to honor the 1990 election results by the people of Burma and the global community the ruling military regime is still harassing, arresting, imprisoning, and killing members of the opposition alliances, mainly the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, world icon of democracy, still held under house arrest and incommunicado without specific charges since May 30, 2003.
Today, the military junta entrenched at Nay-Pyi-daw, the wolves’ lair as commonly known, is on a course to establish a semblance of legality on its otherwise illegal rule via a farce 2010 election, already rigged no doubt.
Hence, while commemorating the 64th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Burma assault on the fascist Japanese forces on this day 64 years ago, we call on the officers and personnel of today’s Armed Forces of Burma founded by our late General Aung San to reflect on their role as only a ‘tool’ for Than Shwe led military thugs in Burma in robbing the natural resources of the country and killing people, the Buddhist monks not an exception, while hanging onto power at all costs and by all means.
Most importantly we urge today’s armed forces personnel of Burma to review their lack luster role as backing a lost cause – continued military rule in Burma and serving a handful of blood thirsty and monk killing bunch in Burma – and assume their rightful and respectable role as protectors of people of Burma today, struggling and sacrificing for their freedom and democracy.
Hence, with a view to condemn the ruling military junta in Burma for exploiting the armed forces personnel, not to mention committing human rights abuses and embarking on a course to substitute the 1990 election results with the farce 2010 elections, we are going to hold a demonstration in front of the Burmese military regime’s embassy in Washington DC as follows.
